Gavel the dog too nice for police work, finds perfect gig

Gavel the dog too nice for police work, finds perfect gig Gavel the dog too nice for police work, finds perfect gig Many of us know what it feels like to be denied a job because we’ve been told we’re not “the right fit.” We humans are not alone - meet the dog who knows just how you feel.Gavel, a German shepherd, was training to be a police dog for the Queensland Police Service in Australia, but unfortunately didn’t make it,  according to BBC News. They thought his demeanor wasn’t suited for the job. Meaning: He was too friendly.Gavel reportedly enjoyed meeting people  instead of putting up a defensive front. But luckily, the pooch had a glamorous new role to fall back on - and not just any: After  successfully completing “a trial as a ceremonial participant” he became “Vice-Regal Dog” for Queensland’s Government House earlier this year, BBC News reported. And he seems to have been lighting up people’s lives during tours and other events (complete with a  uniform) ever since. The Facebook page for the Governor of Queensland  posted photos of the dog this week.(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = 'https://connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1version=v3.1'; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, 'script', 'facebook-jssdk'));So Gavel’s work isn’t in vain - even though he wasn’t a “natural” talent for the police force, it’s clear that he is loved by many. The office of the Queensland governor commented in a statement to the BBC.“He has outgrown four ceremonial coats, undergone a career change (his official title is now Gavel VRD, ‘Vice-Regal Dog’), and brought untold joy to the lives of the governor, Mrs de Jersey, Government House staff, and the thousands of Queenslanders who have since visited the estate,” the office of Governor Paul de Jersey told the publication. The people have also spokenTwitter users have been chiming in about Gavel’s sweet story online. This Twitter user showed  tons of support this wee k.More love for the pooch all around.https://twitter.com/Sam_Winn/status/8731697955454771207 News Australia tweeted a segment of the dog in February after he started his new job. This Twitter user was lucky enough to meet Gavel last year, before he got the new gig. What to do if you’re not ‘a good fit’ for a positionHere’s the mindset to adopt if, like Gavel, you too aren’t  the candidate  the employer had in mind.Remember that it really might not be youLiz Ryan wrote about this in a 2016 Forbes article. “The trick to growing a thicker skin and sailing off confidently from a ‘not a good fit’ mismatch is to keep in mind that most of what happens in a hiring decision has nothing to do with you,” Ryan wrote. Why you shouldn’t stay at  a job that doesn’t feel right to youNozomi Morgan, a certified Executive Coach and the Founder and President of Michiki Morgan Worldwide LLC, wrote about this for HuffPost in 2016.“Instead of thriving like I’d hoped, I lived in cons tant fear. I was scared that I was always doing something wrong. I was scared that my opinion was not good enough. I was scared I would say something stupid. Even writing a simple email was a chore because I was afraid of the smallest error or typo. I couldn’t speak up at meetings because I wasn’t sure that I was adding value to the discussion,” Morgan wrote. After feeling trapped in this job which wasn’t right for her, and dealing with a “visa situation at that time” (as a worker with an international background), she left the position and eventually found her “passion.”Hopefully, if you don’t get the next job you were in the running for, you’ll soon fare as well as Gavel the dog.
